Slaven slams the door on Aris’ UEFA Cup run

August 28th, 2008 | By: Peter Katsiris | No Comments »

NK Slaven Koprivnica ended Aris FC’s European ambitions tonight in Croatia, as a 2-0 win over the Thessaloniki based club was enough to edge out the Greek club ahead of the UEFA Cup First Round. A slim 1-0 lead after the first leg didn’t stand long as, Slaven scored on both sides of half time to cancel out their defeat from a fortnight ago.

The result is a poor one for Aris, especially after qualifying for the group stages of the competition last year. Added to the fact Greece’s clubs are struggling in the early stages of the European season, the loss doesn’t do well for the country’s coefficient ranking. Prospering with the few wins thus far, Greece’s coefficient ranking will surely plummet until there is a change in Greece’s fortunes.

Aris FC (Enrique Hernandez): Kelemen, Ronaldo Guiaro, Vangjeli (Neto), Toni Calvo (Javito), Garcia, Prittas (Sansone), Regueiro, Gentil, Koke.
