On this day…
Yes it was on this day 4 years ago, that Greece stunned the footballing world. I would like to use this blog entry to accomplish two things:
1. Take a look back at the good times of EURO 2004
2. And to solve the “hater” issues arising in this blog’s comments.
EURO 2004 is with a doubt the most unexpected result of Greek footballing history, and for that there is the right to remember the matches of that tournament in Portugal. Surely those days cannot last forever as Spain are now European Champions, but the bashing of Greek soccer will not be tolerated. For fans who “hate” Greece, I ask you to please avoid posting or better yet avoid visiting this section of the World Cup Blog….we don’t need your dirty mouths.
If you don’t like our national team’sstyle of play, don’t watch nobody is forcing you. I am sure you could’ve watched many different games during Greece’s three EURO games. I would also like to add that comments will be monitored by me personally and will be deleted if not appropriate.
For the fans of Greece, I leave you all with a video helping us remember the summer of 2004…

I think jealousy has been a part of the criticism. Greece deserves a lot more credit and praise for what they accomplished in 2004. Don’t you think the expectations during this past Euro pressured the players? I hope the Greeks weren’t too hard on themselves for the early 2008 outing. They had a tough group with Spain and Hiddink’s surprising Russian side (no one expected Russia to do so well). And the Euro champions have never won the subsequent tournament.

Greece won the tournament fair and square four years ago, but that doesn’t mean that you have to like it.
I did not want Greece to win in 2004, and neither did I want them to do well in 2008. The Euros should showcase the best of soccer over a three week period, a fiesta of football. Greece bring very little to the party, in my opinion.
I believe that I was ‘forced’ to watch their matches in Euro 2004 and 2008.
Euro 2008 demonstrated what can be done when attack minded football is chosen over defensive sterility.
