Greece vs. Cyprus (Halftime Report)

May 19th, 2008 | By: Peter Katsiris | No Comments »

Ninis ShotIt’s halftime here in Patras; where the European Champions, Greece, are proving to be too much for the team from Cyprus. The game has provided the home team with plenty of chances, but so far they have converted one past the Cyprus man Georgalidi.

The scorer is none other then, the debutant Sotiris Ninis. His teammate at Panathinaikos, Dimitris Salpigindis, found him wide open on the wing, and the youngster took his chance as the ball bounce past the Cyprus keeper. Greece has had plenty of other chances through Kostas Katsouranis who’s header hit the crossbar; Salpigindis himself hit the side netting; a pair of arobatic displays from Theofanis Gekas and Stelios Giannakopoulos — captain for tonight — sailed over the bar.

At the other end, Greece goalkeeper Kostas Chalkias was tested once — by his own teammate, Georgios Karagounis. Chalkias leaped with his left hand, and pushed the ball over the crossbar.

The second half is about to start, I will recap the game and provide highlights after the remaining 45 minutes are complete.

ELLADARA…OMADARA!
