Greece ready for Denmark date
Valentine’s Day might be just around the corner, but that doesn’t mean Greece will show Denmark any love when the Scandinavian side pays a visit to the Giorgos Karaiskakis Stadium on Wednesday (MEGA, 21:15 GR). Marking the first fixture of the new calendar year for Greece, this stiff international friendly is the final tune-up for [...]
Trust over talent for Greece’s Rehhagel
One glance at Greece’s roster for a midweek friendly with Denmark in Athens next week and it is clear that Otto Rehhagel is not yet ready to abandon his veteran core of players. After Vangelis Moras was a surprise inclusion in the pre-liminary squad list, featuring Greek players plying their trade abroad, Rehhagel stuck to [...]
Danish complaint relocates Greece friendly
A complaint by the Danish Football Federation has forced the Hellenic Football Federation’s (EPO) hand to relocate the February friendly between Greece and Denmark back to Piraeus.
According to the EPO, the Danish Football Federation complained travelling to Volos for a friendly against the EURO 2004 winners would inflict too much trouble for their squad who [...]
Greece, Italy play to a draw
A defensive duel between two Mediterranean rivals played to a stalemate finale on Wednesday night, as Italy pegged back to hold Greece to a 1-1 draw at the Giorgos Karaiskakis Stadium. Without their star players for the most part, Greece and Italy failed to create any convincing scoring opportunities – apart from either tally.
The first [...]
Adriatic rivals meet in Piraeus
Club duties will be put aside this week, as the international stage returns to the main spotlight. Some of that spotlight will be shared by the rekindling of an old rivalry in Piraeus, as Italy makes the trip across the Adriatic Sea to meet Greece just outside the Greek capital. Although the match is billed [...]
Gekas strikes twice in win over Slovakia
Returning to action for the first time since their early exit from the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland, Greece managed to secure a 2-0 win over Slovakia in Bratislava last night. A pair of goals from second-half substitute Theofanis Gekas gave Greece its first win over Slovakia.
Using the opportunity to scout several players, Otto [...]
Greece ready to erase EURO nightmares
The Greek National Team returns to action tomorrow night in Bratislava against Slovakia in an International Friendly. Thanks to miserable run at EURO 2008 by dropping all three games, Greece was eliminated in the group stage and never put up much of title defense. Now the Piratiko returns to action for the first time, and [...]
Ninis returns to Greek National Team
Otto Rehhagel has made his final call-ups ahead of his side’s international friendly against Slovakia on August 20th. Visiting the Slovakian capital, Bratislava, the friendly against the Slovaks will be Greece’s first action since their early exit from the European Championships in mid-June. After making call-ups of international players earlier in the month, the German [...]
Rehhagel makes call-ups ahead of Slovakia friendly
Greece is scheduled to play Slovakia in Bratislava in two weeks time, and Greece coach Otto Rehhagel has already made his first set of squad selections. The preliminary squad list which includes only Greek players playing abroad, features many of the players that starred in Greece’s dismal EURO 2008 run.
One of the call-ups is Sokratis [...]
Greece to play Italy in November
The Hellenic Football Federation announced that an international friendly between Greece and the defending World Cup Champions will take place on November 19th, 2008. The location is yet to be determined, but a neutral venue would be the safest bet.
The Italy friendly will coincide well with Greece’s World Cup Qualifying Campaign, which sees them paired [...]
