Greece to play Italy in November

The Hellenic Football Federation announced that an international friendly between Greece and the defending World Cup Champions will take place on November 19th, 2008. The location is yet to be determined, but a neutral venue would be the safest bet.

The Italy friendly will coincide well with Greece’s World Cup Qualifying Campaign, which sees them paired up with one half of EURO 2008 hosts, Switzerland; as well as Luxembourg, Israel, Moldova, and Latvia.

An friendly against Slovakia in Bratislava has already been set for August 20th, 2008. The friendly will act as a warm-up to Greece’s qualifying campaign, which kick starts on September 6th, against Luxembourg.

Well, no article about the Italian team is complete without a clueless poster throwing around jabs about negative football. Wake up Martin, we’re not in the 1960s anymore! People seem so comfortable with old stereotypes of Italian football because it helps them cope with the success of a team that doesn’t believe in parking 10 players in the opponent’s half. Italy under Marcello Lippi was an attacking side that was also solid defensively.

Greece, on the other hand — no comment.
