Debutant Charisteas tallies for Leverkusen

February 9th, 2009 | By: Peter Katsiris | No Comments »

Angelos Charisteas marked his Bayer Leverkusen debut with a goal on Saturday, as the Greece international scored his side’s second goal of a 4-2 defeat to Vfb Stuttgart. Joining ‘Werkself’ on a loan deal with 2. Bundesliga side FC Nurermberg, Charisteas made his Leverkusen debut memorable, despite his side falling to defeat at the LTU Arena in Dusseldorf.

Playing at the LTU Arena due to renovations at traditional venue BayArena, Leverkusen failed to grab a boost in its bid to reach the Champions League next term.

With his side already trailing 4-1 by the final moments of the match, Charisteas pounced on a centering pass from striking partner Stefan Kiessling to deposit a consulate goal for a deflated Leverkusen.

Charisteas is expected to make an appearance for Greece on Wednesday, as Denmark pays a visit to Athens for an all-European International friendly at the OAKA Spyros Louis Stadium.
